On the north west corner of the vast Australian continent, there is a place so remote you won't find it on any map.
So far away from anywhere, we call it Faraway Bay. It feels like the edge of forever.
There is no road access, Faraway Bay can only be reached by air making this coastal bush hideaway the ideal getaway place.
Where a few days can feel like a week, and a week can change the way you feel forever. Time appears to stand still.
When it does move, it's measured in tides and sunsets.
Described as one of the most isolated lodges in the world, The Bush Camp, 280km north west of Kununurra on the Diamond Coast of the East Kimberley is hidden amongst ancient ranges overlooking a spectacular bay.
Getting there is part of the adventure. Air North flies to Kununurra via Darwin or Broome. Guests are then taken by light aircraft on a flight over ever-changing scenery from crop farming, to rugged ranges and silvery beaches before landing at the Faraway Bay airstrip 70 minutes later. Then, ride by 4WD vehicle for the final few kilometres to The Bush Camp.
The day starts with breakfast in the open air 'Eagle Lodge', a perfect venue for lounging, dining, and daydreaming. Stake your claim on a hammock for the day. Take a refreshing plunge in the cliff top freshwater pool. Review yesterday, plan tomorrow. Walk in the bush. Sit and drink in the ever-changing view.
There's space to spare for you to be solitary, or social, as you please.
At Faraway Bay, 'going out for the day' takes on a whole new meaning. Head for the King George River in 'Diamond Lass', our ocean going cruiser, or potter around the corner in a dinghy and fish the tidal creeks.
Our lounging/dining area Eagle Lodge, where views replace windows, overlooks the bay and our cliff top plunge pool. When the sun sets, champagne and savouries provide a welcome respite after the day's activities for our 12 guests. Our fresh food is flown in and our cook bakes breads, cakes and cookies daily.
Feast on fresh seafood and fine Australian wines. Evening entertainment begins at sunset, when the last rays dance across the rocks and water in a kaleidoscope of colour. Stargaze until dawn. Ease into nature's rhythm. Relax. Explore. Relax some more.
