Charming, welcoming hosts Serena and Eric have carefully transformed their Federation cottage into a stylish retreat with three delightfully furnished bedrooms, plus two very private, luxurious apartments with courtyard gardens.

Holmwood is situated in a quiet tree lined street in Cowes nestled amongst an extensive cottage garden. Surrounded by tall gum trees, you can take in the fresh air and marvel at the tameness of the wildlife.

Surrounded by water, the island's climate is much milder than Melbourne and makes
Holmwood the perfect retreat all year round.

In the Guesthouse you can choose from three beautiful guest bedrooms, all with ensuite bathroom and individually furnished with antiques and quality appointments. The high ceilings, fretwork and ceiling roses retain the atmosphere of a bygone era, whilst modern day facilities ensure you can relax in total comfort! As you sink into the deep comfortable chairs in the guest lounge, feeling a tad full after a hearty cooked breakfast, you may wonder: should you go for a walk along the beach or stay here in front of the open fire with the morning paper, or a good book?

Location

From Melbourne follow the Monash Freeway or Princes Highway to Dandenong.

Turn off onto the South Gippsland Highway (M420), and follow this to the Bass Highway (A420) which leads to San Remo.

Once across the bridge, follow the main road (B420) into Cowes.

Turn right at the 4th roundabout (Chapel Street) and 300 metres down the hill, on the right hand corner of Chapel and Steele Streets, you'll see Holmwood.

Alternatively, catch the passenger ferry from Stony Point or the V-Line bus from Melbourne, and we will meet you at the jetty or the bus stop.

GUESTHOUSE

The Toile Room
This room will transport you to a French country house. Decorated with a timeless, classic toile de jouey. Tall tapered bedside lamps, be-jewelled chandelier overhead, a sumptious bed and Aubusson-style rug underfoot for your comfort and discerning eye. Perfection for a second honeymoon!

The Jane Austen Room
This room is a "Colefax and Fowler" look - understated, tasteful, quietly elegant furnished in a traditional English country house style, complete with crisp floral chintz, bullion fringed drapes and white washed furniture. Relaxed, fresh and inviting.

The Nelson Room
The theme is charcoal and ivory. A black campaign style wrought iron bed dominates. The look is handsome, streamlined casual and comfortable, an idyllic setting for catching up on a classic novel.

COTTAGES

The two luxurious, spacious cottages are perfect romantic retreats for those wanting extra privacy; with separate courtyard access, they are fully self-contained and have queen bed, a warming wood fire, TV, HiFi, VCR, air conditioning, fully equipped kitchenette, and bathroom with spa or bath. Landscaped individual courtyard gardens and private verandahs continue the cottage theme, making you feel like you are "a world away!"

Coastal Cottage
Fresh and breezy with whitewashed walls and intricate beams. Reflects the Cape Cod nautical blue and yellow, with loft ceiling and polished floorboards.

Oriental Cottage
Contemporary with accents of China Red and pewter. Smart and tailored.

TOWNHOUSES
Catering for the family market, these latest additions to the accommodation range at Holmwood are perfect all year round! Located only 100 metres from Cowes main beach and 200 metres East of Thompson Avenue, they have all the quality hallmarks so familiar to our regular guests.


Downstairs is a lounge with TV, VCR and HiFi, dining, fully equipped kitchen, entry and second toilet. The north facing patio is perfect for those warm summer days! Upstairs is the master bedroom with Queen or King size bed, TV and north facing balcony, as well as a second bedroom, configured to either a twin or a double. An extra fold out single bed is also available.


The two are separated by the bathroom, which has a spa bath, shower, toilet and vanity, as well as washing machine and dryer.

The townhouses are let out on a fully self catering basis, with all linen and towels provided.
