About, Facilities, Activities

Moorilla Estate is dedicated to the enjoyment of life.

Founded as a winery in the 1950s, Moorilla has since evolved into a cultural haven that draws visitors from around the world to sample award-winning wine, food, accommodation and the Moorilla Museum of Antiquities.

Moorilla is an Aboriginal word meaning, "A rock by the water". Through this name, we pay tribute to the people who came before us on this land -- and those who will follow.

Moorilla Estate is a unique combination of riverside accommodation, museum, restaurant and winery near Hobart. Moorilla Estate is one of Tasmania's oldest wineries and sits on a 3.5 hectare peninsula jutting into the Derwent River just 20 minutes' drive north of Hobart. Each of the four apartments has a panoramic view across the Derwent River, and is fully self-contained and have been built to ensure privacy, indulgence, relaxation and comfort.

Moorilla's chalets are four individual, self contained apartments, purpose designed and built with privacy, indulgence, relaxation and comfort in mind. Generous in space, light and elegance with luxury features - spa baths for two in stunning granite, glass bathrooms and king size beds.

Admire the sunrise from your private balcony, relax in air conditioned comfort and enjoy breakfast from the gourmet provisions in a 'state of the art' kitchen. News, sports and movie channels, free to air television, direct dial telephones and modem, CD stereo and radio keep you in touch with the outside world. Each unit has a private wine cellar featuring over 60 wines from Moorilla and St Matthias.

The focus of Moorilla Estate is the winery which produces a range of excellent cool climate wines from the riesling, gewürztraminer and pinot grapes. The Moorilla Wine and Food Centre, including the Source Restaurant, overlooks the River. The focus is on a seasonal menu; lunch is served every day, and dinner Friday and Saturday. The Moo Brew brewery makes three boutique beers: American Pale ale; Hefeweizen (a German cloudy wheat beer) and a Pilsener.
