Man with a vision...
The greatness of Arkaroola has been preserved for the world, thanks to one of Australia's greatest ever geologists and conservationists, the late Dr. Reg Sprigg, A.O., D.Sc., h.c. A.N.U and Flinders Uni. Reg's appreciation for the region dates back to 1940 when he studied the area as a student of the great Antarctic explorer Sir Douglas Mawson. In 1967, Reg and Griselda Sprigg purchased what had become Arkaroola sheep station, re-establishing native plant and animal life and transforming this special place into a wilderness sanctuary.

Arkaroola is located in a very special part of the world. It is both within the majestic Flinders Ranges of South Australia and also very much a part of the vast Outback, the spirit of Australia's soul.

Arkaroola lies 600km north of Adelaide. It is also well located to other central Australia and Outback locations. Drive your own vehicle, rent a vehicle including 4WD's or take a tour. The nearby Balcanoona Aerodrome features an all-weather scaled runway of 1200 metres for charter aircraft.

Bushwalking
There are five self-guided walking trails through Arkaroola, with each covering a different type of terrain. Comprehensive self-guide maps produced by the Royal Geographical Society are available for each of these walks

Unique in the world, this is considered by many to be the most spectacular tour in Australia. Journey to the depths of an ancient sea-bed and across the peaks of the Flinders Ranges most rugged mountains to the climax at Sillers Lookout. Arkaroola's Banquet in the Bush is a grand celebration of the great outdoors and al that the Australian Outback has to offer. Enjoy a sumptuous three course meal in a magnificent seting on the banks of the Whywyana Creek. Here, we've created a unique Outback restaurant under canvas, at the base of Griselda Hill which is softly lit in the night sky, creating a mystical aura.
