“One of the finest in the north” was how North Bundaleer was described when the house was completed in 1901, reflecting the wealth and optimism in the pastoral industry at the time.
North Bundaleer, a Heritage Listed homestead, is situated on 400 acres of native bushland and farmland adjacent to the historic Bundaleer Forest.
The homestead, rich in the architectural heritage of its formal rooms, offers a secluded and indulgent hosted accommodation experience in a gracious homestead. Limited to four couples, guests may select from four beautifully appointed bedrooms with extensive views of the surrounding countryside and gardens.
Guests have the use of the entire Homestead, including the formal Drawing Room and Library. For conversation, reading, pre-dinner or after dinner drinks, these rooms are the ideal location. Both have open fireplaces and comfortable seating.
The decoration in the Drawing Room has been designed around an original hand painted frieze over two columns set in a bay window which contains two curved E F Troy leadlight windows picturing almond blossom, birds and butterflies.
The African Room, The William Morris Room, The Blue Room and The ‘Red’ Room have been individually restored to their former and traditional glory, with original and antique furnishings. The Red Room has its own sitting room ensuite where guests can be served dinner in the privacy of their own room, and the bathroom housed in the adjoining conservatory.
The vineyards of the Clare valley are just 40 minutes away, and can include lunch at one of the excellent vineyard restaurants, or a visit to Martindale Hall, a nineteenth century Georgian mansion, or the rurally English village of Mintaro. Sevenhill boasts the magnificent St.Aloysius church, as well as an excellent vineyard run by the monks.
The old mining town of Burra is also close by and provides an insight into the history of settlement and success in what remains a beautiful and unspoilt part of the country.
Although the surroundings may be grand, the ambience is relaxed and informal. Let them welcome you as their guests for a unique experience of rest and recuperation.
The aim of North Bundaleer is to provide an environment in which to unwind and enjoy the simple pleasures of life, a good meal, fresh air, and good company.
