South Long Island Nature Lodge consists of just ten beautiful waterfront bungalows and an open dining gazebo overlooking the private beach of Paradise Bay - the most secluded and unspoilt location in the Whitsundays.

Your private waterfront bungalow is on the foreshore surrounded by rainforest - with spectacular views of the sunlight dancing across the water of Paradise Bay.

The Lodge owns and operates its own 34 foot sailing catamaran and 18 foot power boat, with an experienced local skipper and guide. They are available all day to take guests exploring the dozens of islands, coral gardens & deserted beaches surrounding South Long Island.

On one of your days at the Lodge, a helicopter picks you up for a morning of adventure, visiting two of the world's most beautiful natural phenomena - the outer Great Barrier Reef and Whitehaven Beach.

Our chef will create an exquisite fine dining experience each day. A constantly changing menu, created with fresh local produce, including some of the best seafood in the world, can be individually tailored for guests? specific tastes and dietary requirements.

Dinner is usually enjoyed under a thousand star sky overlooking the beach - fine dining accompanied by excellent Australian wine, good conversation, a warm, gentle breeze off the ocean, and the clearest night sky you'll ever see.

The Lodge is surrounded by national park rainforest teeming with unique Australian wildlife, subtropical waters of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, fringing coral reef, and dozens of uninhabited islands.

With no more than ten guests, no phones, television, young children or day visitors, this is your own private island hideaway - with a friendly chef, hostess, and boat skipper to care for your every need.

You will enjoy a perfect combination of privacy, relaxation, good food, wine, and conversation with fellow guests from around the world - plus some comfortable adventure - in a stunningly beautiful natural environment.

All equipment including wetsuits, stinger suits, snorkelling masks, fins, life jackets, sea kayaks and paddle boards are provided at South Long Island, we have a good selection of beer and premium Australian wines at very reasonable prices.

Medical Emergencies:

A fully equipped air ambulance helicopter is available 24 hours a day and can have patients at the local Mackay base hospital within one hour in case of urgent medical requirements.

South Long Island Nature Lodge - Room Information.

Guest accommodation at South Long Island Nature Lodge consists of private waterfront bungalows perched on the foreshore of Paradise Bay. They are about ten yards from the water at high tide, and no more than ninety yards walk to the pristine sand beach in front of the guest gazebo lounge and dining room.

The architect designed bungalows are large and comfortable - beautifully crafted from solid Australian hardwood, with high cathedral ceilings, and a huge front window displaying uninterrupted spectacular views over the waters of Paradise Bay

With all natural materials and polished wood finishes, they have a unique natural ambiance. Each contains a king size and single bed, modern bathroom, bar fridge, coffee and tea making facilities, and electric fan.

The views are stunning from your bed or the large private veranda with comfortable chairs and a luxurious double hammock. They are all carefully positioned so you can't even see or hear your neighbours.

Electricity for the rooms is supplied by solar charged batteries which provide ample power for lights and charging camera batteries, but not enough for hair dryers, irons or airconditioners (not that you need them here anyway).

The design of each room enables them to catch even the gentlest sea breeze off the water, so that a cross flow of air keeps them cool and comfortable in even the hottest weather. They provide a rare combination of environmentally friendly luxury accommodation, totally surrounded by nature and wildlife with spectacular water views.
