Hidden amidst lush rainforest at the gateway to Lamington National Park, Binna Burra Mountain Lodge invites you to discover the wonders of the wilderness.
One of Australia's longest established nature-based resorts, Binna Burra Mountain Lodge was founded in 1933 by two pioneering conservationists, Romeo Lahey and Arthur Groom.
Their vision was to create a place where people could stay and experience the beauty of the rainforest - a vision which has been enjoyed by generations of nature-lovers, adventure-seekers and environmentalists for more than 60 years.
The original mountain cabins, built from hand-cut tallow wood slabs, are still in use, refitted with modern amenities and facilities; there are no phones, clocks, radios or televisions in your room to remind you of the life you've left behind; and our staff and guides are committed to helping you discover the timeless pleasures of the natural environment.
Stretching out across the McPherson Ranges in south-east Queensland, Lamington National Park is World Heritage-Listed wilderness area which comprises Australia's largest remnant of sub-tropical rainforest.
More than 160 klms of walking tracks wend their way through fern-filled gullies, wind-eroded caves and up to breathtaking lookouts. On the highest peaks, misty forests of ancient Antarctic beech trees date back over 2000 years; down in the valleys, crystal clear streams cascade over moss-covered boulders into deep mountain pools.
Wildlife:
The area abounds with native wildlife. Echoing through dense canopy overhead, you'll hear the call of Whip birds, Satin Bowerbirds and Green Catbirds while our resident ornithologist can help you find the rare Rufous Scrub Bird and Paradise Rifle Bird. In the jungle thick undergrowth, goannas, scrub turkeys and pademelons show no fear of visitors.
Whether you want to join in with the scheduled activities or find your own private corner of the rainforest, every day at Binna Burra offers new discoveries and new experiences.
