Feathers Sanctuary - Accommodation Facilities.

Feathers Sanctuary offers unique bed and breakfast style accommodation, set on two acres of landscaped grounds in the heart of Darwin, just minutes from the Darwin airport. The bird collection at Feathers Sanctuary is diverse. Both native and exotic birds live in two large aviaries.

Complete with waterhole (for the birds) and chilly plunge-pool (for you), Feathers feels distinctly country despite its proximity to the city.

The opulent huts offer decks overlooking rolling lawns, mega-comfortable beds, cool polished concrete floors, 'Bali-meets-bush' teak furnishings and bunches of freshly-cut tropical flowers.

Corrugated-iron wall sections slide cleverly away to reveal private outdoor shower enclosures under the stars.

Breakfast consists of a hamper of fresh breads, homemade jams, fresh coffee, tea, and a complimentary bottle of wine (no, not for breakfast).

Some of the birds have been rescued from less salubrious settings and have acquired odd habits - if you hear a wolf-whistle, it's probably not an appreciative construction worker. Gangly free-roaming brolgas and jabirus steal the show.

Accommodation includes continental breakfast daily and wine and cheese on arrival. The continental breakfast includes fresh tropical fruits in season, cereal, yoghurt, toast, juice, tea and coffee. Breakfast is supplied to your room for you to enjoy at your leisure.

The huts accommodate 2 adults in either twin or double beds. Children over the age of 14 years are most welcome.

The purpose of keeping birds at Feathers Sanctuary is to breed some of the rarer species held in the collection. Many of the birds being held in the Sanctuary are not common in aviculture and we will continue to add species.

All huts at Feathers Sanctuary Bed and Breakfast are fitted with split system air conditioners and have ceiling fans, digital colour television, tea/coffee making facilities and a refrigerator

Please feel free to enjoy the wildlife within the boundaries of the Sanctuary.

The landscape has been developed with the purpose of attracting the native bird life that abounds in the area. It will continue to be enhanced with that purpose in mind.

Your hosts are more than happy for you to accompany them on the daily rounds of feeding the many bird varieties. While taking a leisurely stroll around the sanctuary, take the opportunity to learn about the native birds that are attracted to the area.
