Gunya Titjikala offers an ultimate authentic experience of being a guest within a remote Aboriginal community on the fringe of the Simpson Desert, 120 kilometres south of Alice Springs.
This all-inclusive safari-style hotel is located 120 km (75 miles) south of Alice Springs in northern Australia.
Guests can participate in a variety of recreational activities including indigenous Bush Tucker tours and arts and crafts workshops with the locals. The hotel also provides guest laundry facilities and a business center.
There are three deluxe safari tents, perched on polished timber flooring seven feet above the ground, which are complete with ensuite bathrooms that include a free-standing bath and an eco-flush toilet.
These rooms offer one king bed or two twin beds plus a separate living area with a sofa bed. Complimentary bottled water and coffeemakers are also included.
All three meals are included in the rate, which are prepared by the resident Bush Tucker chef. Bush Tucker is an Australian term used to describe the herbs, spices, mushrooms, fruits, flowers, vegetables, animals, birds, reptiles, and insects that are native to the country. Dinner is a mild fusion of Western-style and native Bush Tucker cuisines.
Gunya Tourism has formed a joint venture with the traditional Aboriginal community, Titjikala, to provide authentic indigenous experiences for tourists and to provide indigenous employment opportunities for locals within their remote environment.
Fifty percent of profits are placed into the Titjikala Community Foundation, where proceeds are focussed on health, education and school retention initiatives.
