Review by: Deborah McCabe | Melbourne
Date travelled:
Service: Desk staff nice and welcoming; waiting staff in restaurant rather amateurish, such as reaching across the front of diners and having thumbs in the food plates when food was served.
Cleanliness: Room was clean, as was the hotel overall.
Room: The room (and ensuite) was very small for the price - though fabulous view with balcony (I think few rooms would have good views though). The finish of the room was pretty poor though - old wires hanging down scarcely concealed (including a scary-looking junction box visible from the bed), raw plaster sheets with dusty flushing in the wardrobe, rough, old tiling job in bathroom - looked like a hasty and crude renovation job.
Facilities: Facilities were more basic than the web site would suggest. The "bar" - a few lounge chairs in a small section off the restaurant - was closed. The restaurant itself had a rough finish like the room - such as paint on the window glass.
Location: Great location - near centre of town. Easy to find.
Value for money: Fair value for money. Worth spending the extra on a room with a balcony to get a view.
Overall comments: Good place to stay, but rather over-priced for the quality of the hotel - the website really overstates the property. For that money we'd expect to see high-quality finishes everywhere.
