Whispering Pines Chalet Fontanelle is perched on the escarpment at the head of the majestic Wentworth Falls. Boasting stunning views over the beautiful Blue Mountains, it is only one and a half hours drive from Sydney.

A few short steps from the natural wonder of the World Heritage listed Blue Mountains National Park and just seconds from lookouts and the start of some of the most spectacular walking trails in the Mountains.

The Chalet Fontanelle stands in 1.6 hectares (4 acres) of magnificent gardens that only a grand vision and a century can produce.

Towering oaks, cedars, dogwoods and pines add dignity to a splendid rain garden with a focal point of formal roses on one side, and on the other an elegant fountain in keeping with the home's original name.

HISTORY OF CHALET FONTANELLE

The Chalet Fontanelle was built for the Reverend Stephen Childe and family of North Sydney in 1898 as a country summer house. It was home to his son Vere Gordon Childe, one of the world´s most famous and eminent prehistorians.

The house was designed in Swiss alpine chalet style by the noted architect of the day, Edward Jeffreson Jackson, the architect who introduced the red tile roof to Sydney.

The dry stone garden walls were completed by Paul Sorensen, one of Australia´s best known garden designers.

The restored terraces & walls hark back to the original structures of Paul Sorensen.

These extensive grounds adjoin & open directly into 600,000 hectares of National Park with major walking trails & lookouts literally on the doorstep.

Chalet Fontanelle is a strictly non-smoking environment.

Wentworth Falls is 100 kms west of the Sydney GPO one hour's drive along the M4 motorway from its start at Strathfield.  

The Chalet Fontanelle is at the end of Falls Road, 2km from the turnoff on the Great Western Highway.

Wentworth Falls is 5km East of Katoomba.
